Optional but very helpful is Alfred music theory software that is listed on this carousel. It has computer games that help them to learn their notes and other musical symbols. It goes with the piano books and covers three levels. My daughter really started to learn to read the music quickly after I got this for her, so I highly recommend it.

I also put up some flash cards. These are nice if you would like to help quiz them at home on their notes. You don't have to know any music to use them. Everything you need to know is written on each card.
